The Danish shipping and logistics company Maersk announced July 19 that it had broken ground on a new 123,000-square-foot air freight gateway in Atlanta, Georgia near the Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International Airport.

The new location offers direct planeside recovery and immediate unit load device (ULD) transfers to the facility. Maersk added that the venue will provide reduced processing fees while speeding up the transportation of goods from the Port of Savannah. It will also act as a freight forward staging facility for Maersk’s Greenville, South Carolina-based controlled flight operations.

"Maersk is strengthening our promise to customers of integrated, end-to-end logistics solutions by growing our air freight services in a strategic transportation hub,” said John Wetherell, Maersk’s regional head of air freight for North America. “Our Atlanta facility enhances our offering, providing customers with superior supply chain flexibility supported by our expanded regional capabilities in warehousing and transportation. We will be able to leverage this connectivity to bolster our air freight network across North America, Europe, Asia Pacific and the world.”
